Your Role at Pura:

As a VP of Software Engineering, you will lead Pura’s Mobile App, Cloud/Backend, and Connected Platform Engineering teams, owning the software stack that links every smart diffuser to the Pura app in real time—from firmware-adjacent connectivity through cloud services and the customer-facing experience. You’ll ensure the platform scales securely and reliably as it connects millions of devices in Owners’ homes. You will help us inspire a belief in the power of fragrance to craft and elevate memorable moments for our Owners. What You’ll Own:

• Lead the software organization: Direct Pura’s Mobile App, Cloud/Backend, and Connected Platform Engineering teams, setting technical strategy and roadmap across all software products
• Own the connected platform: Architect and scale the cloud services, APIs, and mobile device-connectivity worldwide 
• Drive product delivery: Guide software features from concept through release, balancing speed, quality, and reliability across iOS, Android, and cloud releases 
• Ensure security and privacy: Establish practices that protect Owner data and connected devices, ensuring it meets international guidelines and best practices
• Manage uptime and scale: Own system reliability, monitoring, and incident response so the app and platform perform flawlessly as the device fleet grows 
• Build the team: Recruit, develop, and retain top mobile, backend, and platform engineering talent, and shape the org structure as Pura scales 
• Own budget and roadmap: Build and manage the software engineering budget, and shape the multi-year product roadmap with Product and Executive teams 

Essential Functions:

• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Hardware Engineering, Data, and Executive teams to align software development with business strategy and go-to-market timing.
• Represent software engineering to the executive team, communicating technical trade-offs, risks, and investment needs in business terms.
• Lead special projects and new-feature exploration

Qualifications:

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading multidisciplinary teams at the Sr. leadership level, ideally on consumer mobile apps and cloud-connected IoT platforms.
• Proven track record scaling cloud infrastructure and mobile applications to millions of active users and connected devices.
• Strong grasp of mobile development (iOS/Android), cloud architecture (AWS/GCP), APIs, and IoT device connectivity (BLE/Wi-Fi/MQTT).
• Experience embedding security and data privacy best practices into consumer connected-device products.
• Experience managing software engineering budgets and headcount planning in a fast-growing or scaling company.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate technical detail for executive and cross-functional audiences
